We could take a plane or a train to enjoy the magnificent
colors this weekend as New England hardwoods
prepare for winter. Or, we could hop in our car and take a four hour
drive into the heart of Michigan 's Upper Peninsula to view similar woodsy splendor.
Or, we could simply look out our living room windows . . . .

I believe I would choose to get a cup of coffee or tea and just relax looking out your window. To me, that is part of the essence of retirement.

The monsoon here has finally departed and we now enter the colder months. I too sit in the veranda and see our garden, butterflies, birds etc as well as the passing parade on the avenue outside. Yes, retirement is good.
Don't need to travel with a backyard like that. Any wildlife out there? All I have is rabbits (admittedly cute) that eat my lawn.
Pied: Lots of wildlife. Many squirrels and a wide variety of birds, some possums, chipmunks, and raccoons. Deer frequently pass through our yard between patches of woods; have seen as many as 14 in a single group. Rabbits are seen infrequently. Moles, which burrow in lawn areas, and the raccoons are our pests.
I agree. No place like. Home.
Lucky you having that view out your window. Our colors here are more associated with those produced by drought.
In about two months a lot of Michiganders will wish they were in a California drought.
