Where Are They?

Although I enjoyed several of his books, I never was a big fan of noted author and speaker Gore Vidal, who died this week.  However, one of his sayings puts me in LOL land everytime I hear or see it:

"The United States was founded by the brightest people in the country — and we haven't seen them since."

(Thanks for the reminder by Ronni Bennett at www.timegoesby.net)

I know it gets a laugh, but I would disagree. I thought Bill Clinton was very bright although he had other issues that created a wind chill in his behaviour.

There are plenty of others too which I could name but won't in this forum.

The problem is that we don't listen to the brightest and the best amoung us. This is what you get in a democracy with poorly informed people. People can believe any old thing and often do, and they vote. Dianne

Right you are, Dianne. We've had no shortage of brilliant people. It's too bad most citizens now get the bulk of their information from sound bites and attack ads.

That was one of his funny utterances and a good one to quote.
